A Passport to New Frontiers

The Calypso 2 is your passport to a world of adventure, ready to discover new places and routes — both on the ground and in the air.

The Calypso 2 is a true lightweight design, aimed to perfectly match the needs of leisure and progressing pilots who like to travel, hike and even do some XC.

Reassuring but fun handling

The Calypso has exceptional passive stability and offers coherent and controlled feedback so that you can better understand the air and maximise your enjoyment and also performance. Brake pressures are smooth, precise and progressive, but equally the wing is still forgiving if flown less actively.

True lightweight design

As the Calypso is a lightweight wing designed from scratch, the internal structure and optimised line layout saves weight without compromising other aspects of the design. As a result, the Calypso offers very balanced flying characteristics, not just light weight.

Extended weight range

The Calypso is certified with an extended weight range for a greater flexibility of use. Flown around the middle of the normal weight range, low-airtime pilots will discover an easy, well-behaved wing with great climbing ability. Flown at a higher wing loading in the extended weight range, suitably experienced hike ‘n fly pilots can enjoy dynamic flying in stronger conditions and also save on pack weight by taking a smaller glider.

The Rigifoil, evolved

A new feature on the Calypso 2 is a small half rib with a Nitinol rod and a short tensioning string between top and bottom cells in the leading edge. Like the original patented Rigifoil system, this helps maintain the precise shape of the leading edge, which has wide ranging benefits in terms of flying characteristics. Inflation, stability, handling and performance are all significantly improved.

Stress-free starts...

As a result of the overall design, weight saving construction and leading edge enhancements, the Calypso 2 has one of the easiest take-offs in our range. If terrain or conditions start to get challenging, the Calypso 2 has your back!

...stress-free flights

The Calypso 2 offers precise and progressive brake pressure and transmits coherent yet controlled feedback through the brakes and risers. You can better understand the air and maximise your fun. The wing offers exceptional passive safety but also responds well to more active inputs as your flying progresses and you start to relax in the sky.

Low weight, low packed volume

Thanks to the Nitinol rods on the leading edge, optimised internal structure and line layout, weight is reduced without compromising flying characteristics. The Nitinol rods enable a very compact folding and packing. The Calypso 2 can be packed with one of our light reversible harnesses or a conventional harness and X-Lite rucksack giving a total pack weight of well under 10kg.

Extended weight range

The Calypso 2 is certified with an extended weight range for a greater flexibility of use. Flown around the middle of the normal weight range, low-airtime pilots will discover an easy, well-behaved wing with great climbing ability. Flown at a higher wing loading in the extended weight range, pilots can retain peace of mind when carrying extra gear or load up to enjoy some dynamic soaring.

Optional Dyneema riser

For pilots who want to go even lighter and more compact, an optional Dyneema riser is available. This saves around 200g compared to the standard riser.

DESIGNER NOTES

Designer Gin Seok Song explains the development process of the Calypso 2:

“For the Calypso 2 we worked a lot on the internal construction in order to improve the flying characteristics without increasing the weight. We found the Rigifoil mini on the leading edge works really well on this airfoil and has benefits in many areas such as inflation, stability, handling and performance.

This makes the take off really easy. The canopy comes up progressively with minimal effort and no shooting. It’s no problem to get airborne even in tight spots.

We chose sheathed lines to minimise drag and weight yet provide easy handling, dimensional stability and durability

For the canopy fabric, we chose a well proven mix of 34g, 32g and 27g Porcher fabric to provide durability and rigidity where needed and to minimise the weight in less critical areas."
